Telecommunications
Telecommunications (both national and international fixed/mobile voice service, Internet access and data services both narrowband and broadband) in Cyprus are offered by a number of providers following the liberization of the sector.
Visitors are invited to check for specific services the offerings of the licensed operators who are listed in the Directory of Licensed Operators at the web page of the Office of the Regulator for Electronic Communication and Postal Regulation at www.ocecpr.org.cy
Public telephones are installed at various central locations in all towns and villages as well as at International airports, harbours and other locations. There are three types of public telephones, Coinphones, Outdoor cardphones and indoor cardphones. All public payphones can be used for both national and international calls. In all payphones, dialing instructions as well as charges rates are posted.
Internet cafes are available in all cities. Superior hotels have internet facilities available as well.
Electricity
The Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) supplies the electricity. To set up an account you will need to call them. The voltage is between 220 and 240 volts and standard three-pin plugs are used. Charges are reasonable, based on consumption and due every two months.
Gas
There is no central gas supply on the island. Gas bottles can be purchased for approximately C£3 for a 10kg bottle.
Water
Water is scarce in Cyprus, particularly in the long, dry summer, so care over wastage is appreciated. Tap water is drinkable, charges based on consumption, bills are sent every three months.
